Ms. Susan Rebecca Carnegie

Susan Carnegie APRN is currently an advanced practice registered nurse with over twenty years of working in the mental health field. Over the years, Ms. Carnegie has worked with multiple populations including individuals with head injuries, chronic mental illness, developmental disabilities and dementia, as well as children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly in inpatient and outpatient settings. Ms. Carnegie treats a diverse array of behavioral health issues including: mood disorders (major depression, seasonal affective disorder, bipolar disorder, general anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive behavior, panic disorder), psychotic disorders (schizophrenia, delusional disorders, thought disorders), and cognitive disorders (mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia from multiple etiologies). She also treats people with stressors, such as grief and loss, family and marital conflicts, and problems with work, school, parenting, and caregiving roles.

Ms. Carnegie provides therapy and medication management to adults age 18 and older. Ms. Carnegie employs a wide variety of therapeutic treatment modalities in working with clients, including cognitive behavioral therapy, insight oriented therapy, solution oriented therapy, and supportive psychotherapy. She works within an eclectric framework of psychological and nursing models to provide psychotherapy. Ms. Carnegie has full prescriptive authority and provides psychopharmacological evaluation and medication management as well. Each client is viewed from a holistic perspective and treatment is individually tailored to the needs of the client. Ms. Carnegie works as a partner with clients to assist in symptom reduction with the ultimate goal of self-actualization.

Ms. Carnegie received a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Bates College. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s in Nursing and a Master’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Arizona. Ms. Carnegie is licensed as an RN and APRN in the state of New Hampshire. She is board certified as a clinical nurse specialist in psychiatric and mental health nursing by the American Nursing Credentialing Center. Her practice is guided by the American Nurses Association code of ethics.

Ms. Carnegie is a second generation psychiatric-mental health advanced practice nurse who has devoted her life to enhancing the lives of people who suffer from a variety of illnesses or are overwhelmed by life circumstances. Ms. Carnegie is currently pursuing a PhD from the University of Arizona. Her area of research interest is improving support and education to caregivers of individuals with dementia. She has been described as brilliant, compassionate, and possessing boundless energy.
